ETMS - Points to Consider
- No one understands tire maintenance and management more than D&D Tire, Inc. That’s why we developed Elite Tire Management Systems (ETMS). ETMS is the only tire management system of its kind being implemented at major mine and construction sites in the Western hemisphere. This program has been so successful it has saved our customers millions of dollars in tire costs, along with cascading impacts in reduced fuel consumption and reduced equipment downtime. This translates into greater productivity and lower operating costs.
- Many tire manufacturers and vendors are offering some sort of tire tracking system as a compliment to their products and services. However, tire-tracking programs are only a “score card” used primarily to determine “cost per hour”. While this is better than nothing, it’s just the tip of the iceberg. In other words, knowing your cost per hour can only tell you “what was” not “what can be done” (reactive vs. proactive)
- The earth mover tire market is currently in a situation where demand exceeds supply. Can you afford to continue to throw away potential tire life and risk a situation where equipment has to be parked as a result of the inability to procure tires?
- Current economic conditions are difficult at best. Tire costs remain one of your top expenses. In fact, the cost for a set of tires on one vehicle can be greater than the cost of a new engine in the same piece of equipment! More often than not, while preventative maintenance programs for the engine and drive components are developed and adhered to, preventative maintenance on tires is rarely even considered. Preventative maintenance is a key ingredient to realizing optimum tire performance, but by itself, it is still not enough. - Today’s tires are highly engineered products that require attention and care to achieve optimum life and performance for which they were designed. In fact, because operating conditions at jobsites vary so widely, many of our customers use tires and compounds specifically designed for their site and only their site. Often times, these tires couldn’t be used at other jobsites due to their own unique operating characteristics.
- New technology - We now have tires that can actually talk to us via computer chips installed in the tire. Information such as internal temperature and inflation pressure can be transmitted to the operator in real time. This technology is not merely in development but in actual use at some of our current sites.
- Our software is available in multiple languages and can be tailored to a specific language and dialect. The tire-tracking program can switch between languages and different units of measure on the fly and can run multiple sites from one location or as individual stand alone sites that can be accessed from the corporate office with password protected user levels.
